Many hovercraft have been tested at Lee-on-the-Solent, so it is only fitting that a museum dedicated to hovercraft should sit on the runway just offshore. Containing one of the world’s largest collections of hovercraft models, the museum acts as a safe repository for manufacturers to store their models. It even includes Christopher Cockerell’s original model, the very first working hovercraft in the world.
Along with the models, the museum keeps documents, films, drawings and designs, photographs, and publications on the research and development of hovercrafts throughout history. The museum is so trusted that several manufacturers store their entire archives of work there.
