The Victor Noir Statue

The Victor Noir StatueRubbed Out by istolethetv
Victor Noir was a journalist in nineteenth century France. Upon his death, a lying down bronze statue of him was built for the covering of his tomb. What makes this statue lucky? If you look at Victor’s slacks, you will see a raised spot at the crotch.

Nowadays the statue is a charm for good romance. Instructions are to leave a single flower on his hat, kiss his lips, and rub his raised trouser line (it is the only area of bronze that is still shiny from being rubbed so many times over the years). This will grant a maiden a perfect husband and a stellar sex life.

Located in the Père Lachaise Cemetery, Victor’s tomb is the most popular attraction for women visiting the cemetery. Whether ladies are superstitious or just enjoying a fun tradition, the ritual continues in full swing. An attempt to stop women from touching the tomb was made in 2004 when a fence was put up around the statue to keep visitors out of the area. It engendered such an outcry from the women of Paris that the fence was torn down and the tradition resumed.
