Though this is one of the most popular attractions in Paris, it still holds a secrets many are not aware of. Most people visit the dome to climb the steps to the terrace for a great view of the city. But the view doesn’t end there. A second set of steps flows from the terrace up to the very top of the structure, where a truly memorable view of Paris can be seen. It costs a little extra to ascend the steps, but the higher view is well worth it! As the name suggests, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart is dedicated to the sacred heart of Jesus. It is the second most visited monument in Paris and sits atop Montmartre, the highest hill in the city. Construction of the monument took nearly thirty years, beginning in 1885 and finally being completed in 1914.
