The Blue Lake - Snowdonia

The Blue Lake - SnowdoniaRipples in the Blue Lake by Dave Croker
One of the best hidden treasures in Snowdonia National Park, the richness of the lake’s color and the secret access to the site make this a thrilling adventure for those wanting to spend a few moments basking at a natural swimming pool that is never crowded. Surrounded on every side by cliffs, the lake can only be accessed by traversing a tunnel that passes through the side of one of the rocky cliffs.

The tunnel in the cliff’s edge is not a naturally formed structure, but was hollowed out when the area was used as a quarry. The site was meant to be turned into a hydroelectric reservoir, though nature had other designs, raging upon the workers with storms that sent them dispersing from the area and abandoning their plans. Some of the old mining equipment still rests near the site, never removed.

Today, The Blue Lake is known as one of the best places for swimming in the wild. While it offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience, the lake does reside on private property, and visitors must take into account the trespassing nature of their excursion.
