An ancient church built in 1100 AD, St. Dunstan’s suffered damaged throughout history and is no longer a fully building. Today, the beauty of the gardens is matched only by the stunning ancient architecture on the still standing walls that provide the perfect backdrop to the lush courtyard. St. Dunstan’s is a perfect attraction for those looking to step into the beauty of The Lord of the Rings scenery and feel like they’ve entered Middle Earth.
Located between the Tower of London and London Bridge, St. Dunstan-in-the-East was highly damaged from bombing during World War II. The north and south walls continue to stand, along with the tower and steeple. After the war, it was decided that the church would not be repaired, and was instead converted into a public park. The City of London Corporation planted trees and a lawn and added a low fountain in the center of the church’s nave.
