Spiez

Settled on the German-speaking side of Switzerland, Spiez was originally called Spietz. Sitting on the shores of Lake Thun, it has been a popular residential area for centuries, being very active in the Bronze and Iron Ages. Bronze and iron tools have been discovered in plenty there.
Spiez Castle and church sit up against the waterfront, both examples of early Romanesque architecture with their conical towers. They have stood in splendor for one thousand years.
Spiez is famous for its location next to the Niederhorn Mountains and for being nestled up against the blue waters of Lake Thun. Days are almost always sunny and ideal for outdoor activities on the lake. Cruises on the lake provide memorable panoramic views of the town against the mountain peaks. Windsurfing takes adventurers to a higher thrill level. The hills welcome outdoor enthusiasts with trails for hiking and biking.
