Making one think back to childhood, this display feels very much like a building blocks game for adults. Artist Ugo Rondinone painted large boulders in an array of colors and then stacked them atop each other in seven columns that sit like a balancing victory for a long-gone giant.
With each boulder stack standing at 32 feet (9.8 metres) high, the fluorescent hues are easily spotted against the darker desert backdrop. Each boulder is the size of a car, making for massive luminescent totem poles.
Just ten miles south of Las Vegas, this modern monolith graces the sky in the desert sands just off of Interstate 15. Visitors can’t help but feel like a child again as they take in the illustrious display of colors and wish they had their own boulders to stack and build wonders with.
