Roma San Paolo Fuori le Mura BW 1.jpg by Wikimedia Commons
The Basilica of St. Paul is the second largest church in Rome and the third largest in the world. It was built in the fourth century over the tomb of Paul, and the tomb remains on public display within the walls. A shrine to Paul stands outside the building, illustrating the significance of his life and impact on the Christian world. Of interest are the portraits of popes hanging on the walls beneath the windows. Every pope throughout history is lined up on the wall, and legend has it that when room for papal portraits runs out, the world will come to an end.
