Sail a Roskilde Viking Ship

Visitors to the Viking Ship Museum can now end their tour with a ride in a modern reconstruction of ancient Viking ships.
The wooden ships are made in the museum’s own boatyard using the same methods as the Vikings did 1,000 years ago. The impressive boats are then set into the waters of Roskilde Fjord right next to the museum, where passengers are even treated as Vikings during the journey, contributing to the sailing by setting the sail and rowing. The trip lasts between 1 and 1.5 hours, returning to shore.
When booked online through the Viking Ship Museum, bookings can include the price of museum entrance as well as sailing afterward. The museum displays actual ships built by Vikings one thousand years in the past, and their modern counterparts are built to resemble them perfectly. Seeing the old, decaying ships next to the modern wooden ones connects two worlds in a way where nothing else could draw us so profoundly to our ancestors.
