The Woodstock of Europe!

🔎 As the largest music festival in northern Europe, Roskilde Festival started in 1971 and was modeled after Woodstock in the United States.
The festival was first put on by two high school students. With the surprise success, it was managed the following year by the Roskilde Foundation. It catered to hippies, and was quickly set up as a nonprofit event with thousands of volunteers helping out in support of culture and music. One of the more interesting ideas occurred in 2014, when fans were able to vote on which organizations the funds would go to.
The concert takes place in either June or July each year and runs for four straight days. It draws in a variety of artists, both local and world famous, as well as a good sampling of several genres of music. Some of the biggest names in rock, pop, hip hop, electronic, and reggae have taken center stage over the years, including Metallica, Fatboy Slim, Blur, Coldplay, and Muse.
