Listed as one of the world’s most spectacular theatres, and rightly so, this open-air theatre is set into the stony cliffs by the sea. Spectators enjoy Shakespeare with a view of the ocean as a backdrop. Both the theatre stage and the stone seats are carved out of the rocky cliff, making this such a unique theatre that enthusiasts flock to the area even during the off season just to walk around the stage.
Built just after World War I, the theatre uses the word Minack, which comes from the Cornish Meynack, meaning a stony or rocky place. The season for plays runs from May to September. The performances are so impressive and the location so awe-inspiring that more than 80,000 ticket holders sit as spectators each year.
