Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall by ReflectedSerendipity
Featuring 19th-century-style gardens, the Lost Gardens of Heligan have become the UK’s most popular botanical gardens. Left forgotten after World War I, the gardens were restored in the 1990’s to their former glory, drawing interested crowds to see the beauty that took more than one hundred years to blossom fully.
Among the wonders are huge rhododendrons and camellias, an elaborate Italian garden, and the last remaining pineapple pot in Europe, meant for growing pineapple in a colder climate. The gardens also feature two large humanoid figures named the Mud Maid and the Giant’s Head who are carved from rocks and clothed in plants.
