Dedicated to British comic strips and cartoons, the Cartoon Museum in London boasts over 5,000 books and 4,000 comics from British Cartoonists throughout its history. It houses 1,700 original prints and cartoons, and even issues its own catalogues. Animation, caricatures, and cartoons line the walls and shelves of this beloved treasury of humor. Spend a day in good spirits; you’ll find it impossible not to laugh out loud at some of the funniest comedy ever penned.
The museum offers courses for adults in cartooning as well as graphic novels. Each year, the Cartoon Art Trust awards the Young Cartoonist of the Year. They also award those who have made a significant contribution to British cartooning with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The museum declares that it is “dedicated to preserving the best of British cartoons, caricatures, comics and animation, and to establishing a museum with a gallery, archives and innovative exhibitions to make the creativity of cartoon art past and present, accessible to all for the purposes of education, research and enjoyment."
