The Birr Castle gardens are as visit-worthy as the stunning castle itself. For more than 150 years, the Earls of Rosse had taken on the tradition of traveling the world in search of rare and uncommon plants to bring back to the castle garden.
To date, more than 2,000 plant species have been placed in the garden in beautiful arrays of shape and size. The gardens are also home to the world’s largest box hedge. Planted three centuries ago, these 40 foot tall hedges make one feel as though he or she is passing through the world’s tallest maze.
