🔎 Visit the place where it all started at the world’s first Legoland. Founded in 1968, Legoland had humbler origins. In 1949, Ole Kirk Christiansen started the LEGO factory with a small park next to the facility. When his son, Godtfred, took over the family business after Ole’s death, he decided to build a much larger Legoland Park on 14 acres of land to promote the toys. It worked: there are now six Legoland amusement parks, more than 600 billion legos have been manufactured, and the company was recently named the world’s most powerful brand.
While each Legoland in the world is divided into different themed lands with their themed rides, Mini Land is the heart of the park. Mini Land is where the creativity takes place, with gigantic works of art being constructed from millions of tiny plastic LEGO pieces all strategically fitting together. Each Legoland Park constructs behemoth structures based on the local culture. The Billund Legoland has Danish landmarks, as well as famous landmarks from around the world. Landmarks from Denmark include Amalienborg Castle, Nyhavn, Klampenborg Station, Skagen, and Ribe. Landmarks outside of Denmark include the Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, and the world of Star Wars.
Rides include roller coasters, a log flume, a pirate themed ship, panning for gold, arcade games, electric cars, river rapids, a submarine ride to Atlantis, and much more.
Legoland puts on celebrations for Halloween and Star Wars Day, and often uses fireworks on other occasions. 🔍
