Berggasthaus Aescher Wildkirchli

Along the road to the cavernous hotel lies Wildkirchli, an area consisting of three large caves set into the side of a cliff. The caves are important for the Paleolithic discoveries held therein. A chapel was founded in the first cave in 1658, and a hermitage was established in the upper cave to house hermits who came for chapel services. The hermitage eventually became an Inn. Today, a small museum recreating the hermitage sits in the cave. Old flint tools and the full skeleton of a bear were found within the caves.
Along the mountainside also sits a restaurant set into the side of the cliff. Berggasthaus Aescher Wildkirchli is accessed after a cable car ride and a steep hike along the cliff. Though hard to get to, the restaurant offers spectacular food and an even more stunning view of the mountains.
